O’Connor, a former Grampians Cricket Association pace bowler, captured his first sash in Ballarat Gift’s 120-metre handicap celebrity race at the weekend.
Bursting off the 25-metre mark, O’Connor powered down PowerFM frontmarker Jules Zass, who ran off 35 metres.
His top rivals also included former AFL ruckman and North Ballarat Rooster Orren Stephenson, who started on 16 metres, and Commonwealth Games marathon gold medallist Steve Moneghetti (18m).
The race was part of the two-day Ballarat Gift festival, a key feature on the Victorian Athletic League calendar and road to the Stawell Gift at Easter.
