Soho Tribeca, who is on loan to the Stanley stable for his eastern states campaign, ran a huge race to be beaten a neck by champion New Zealander Lazarus at Melton on Saturday night.
Stanley’s charge, driven by top reinsman Greg Sugars, followed Lazarus for much of the race and just missed running him down in the home straight.
Soho Tribeca, which is usually based in Western Australia, picked up $75,000 for his connections with the runner-up placing.
Stanley will keep the horse in the short term, with plans now aimed at the Miracle Mile in Sydney.
Following the qualifying races, the $750,000 feature will be run on Saturday, February 24.
