Officers were first dispatched to the scene following reports of an aggravated burglary on Webster Street about 11.45pm last night.
Police arrived and found tyres had been slashed on vehicles throughout the suburb, including on Wendouree Parade, Gregory Street and Lindisfarne Crescent.
A search operation began as police scoured the area in the dark.
The alleged offender, a 22-year-old man, was eventually apprehended by officers about 2.30am.
He has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and possessing a controlled weapon.
The Wendouree resident will appear in the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court this morning for a remand hearing.
The charges relate to aggravated burglaries in homes on Webster Street and also on Wendouree Parade shortly before 2.30am.
No one was injured during either of the incidents.
The man was also questioned over the tyre slashings across Lake Wendouree, but was not charged in relation to these incidents.
Police said they have so far received more than 15 reports of cars being targeted.
