The Wendouree Railway Station Precinct Master Plan will provide an action plan for infrastructure upgrades at the site, including the addition of a second platform at Wendouree Station.
The second platform and new tracks will be delivered as part of the $551.8 million Ballarat Line Upgrade project, which is set to be completed in 2019.
The station will also gain a new pedestrian crossing linking the two platforms as well as upgrades to security, lighting and signage.
The master plan, which is currently up for community consultation, will identify a number of priority opportunities, including:
- Improving the function, useability and appearance of the precinct
- Improving access and movement for pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles and buses
- Providing for an increasing number of people using the Wendouree Station and surrounding precinct
- Identifying development opportunities for the revitalisation of the precinct, including underutilised railway land
- Long-term rail infrastructure requirements
- Coordination of projects across the precinct
New car parks were expected to be added to the station by the end of 2017. VicTrack, the body responsible for delivering the commuter parking spaces was asked for details on expected construction dates, but did not respond in time for deadline.
The Wendouree Railway Station Precinct Master Plan is being prepared in partnership with Transport for Victoria, VicTrack, Public Transport Victoria, VicRoads and Melbourne Metro Rail Authority, who are responsible for delivering the Ballarat Line Upgrade.
Residents, businesses and commuters can complete an online survey at mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au until March 2. A community drop-in session was held on Tuesday.
