What’s an eight pin, you say?
Having your eight bowls closer to the jack than the oppositions, something that does not happen often – even rarer is doing it on back-to-back days. But that was the case for the Linton quartet.
On Saturday against Learmonth, in division two, it was all square in their rink as the Linton boys took the advantage on the final end, holding seven shots with Traill having bowl in hand.
He loved it out of the hand, and sure enough, converted to land the eighth bowl – it was celebrations all round.
On Sunday, the quartet returned to take on City Oval in a must-win game.
Once again the four men delivered an outstanding rink, combining for yet another eight pin. It went down to a measurement, but the Linton boys, to their delight, claimed the feat once more.
Landers, who has been playing for 33 years, had only one eight pin previously – some 20 years ago. Yet last week amazingly delivered him his second and third.
It was the same case for Traill, while for Hetherington and Pearce, who have been playing a touch over a decade, it was their first.
