AFL great Mick Malthouse, who grew up in Wendouree West, called on all residents to come down and get involved.
“I love coming back, I love the place, it’s the nostalgia – it’s the greatness of Ballarat,” he told the crowd this morning.
“I think Ballarat holds you, because one it’s the history, you look at the Eureka Stockade and through the gold rush.”
All events started and finished in the lakeside events precinct near the Adventure Playground.
The Forge, The Provincial Hotel, Bagel Junction and Bean Me Up Mobile Espresso were also on hand to serve up beer and food for hungry participants to enjoy by the lake.
Now in its 11th year, the Classic remains the primary fundraiser for Ballarat’s homegrown Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
The big event, which includes several different cycling courses, is not a competition and is open for all ages.
