The reigning premier took the honours 42-0.
However, the Kestrels were doing their best work late in their season opener – keeping Croydon to just 12 points in the second half.
The Rangers set up the win in the second quarter with a 22-point run.
Harmony Mott was the Kestrels’ best and line-backer Sarah Stephens made an impressive debut for Ballarat with 10 tackles, including a sack.
Quarterback Lindy Pellow, lineman Molly Branson, Jasmine Coleman and Harmony Mott were other better performers.
