In the city, the SES responded to more than 10 call-outs after wind gusts as powerful as 75km/h swept through Monday evening.
Duty officer Cameron Maher said calls for assistance started to pour in about 9pm, with crews working through the night until 1.30am on Tuesday.
“Several trees were knocked down creating traffic hazards at Mount Clear and through to Buninyong,” he said.
“A home in Nerrina was also damaged after a big antenna became dislodged from the roof.
“There was damage to fences from downed trees, but we were lucky enough to avoid any major damage to houses and cars.” A number of calls were also received between 5am and 7am Tuesday as people woke up to find damage to their properties.
Earlier, more than 750 homes and businesses were plunged into darkness in Trentham after power cut out on Monday evening.
An outage on Trentham Road in Tylden affected around 1300 properties across Trentham, Blackwood and Newbury, according to electricity distributor Powercor’s website.
The cause of the black out was listed as being under investigation.
The outage followed a horror run for Victorians this summer, with tens of thousands of homes left without power during a heat wave at the end of January.
The gauge at Ballarat airport registered only 0.6mm of rain as of Tuesday morning, making Monday the wettest day in February so far in what is shaping up to be a drier than average month.
The SES received more than 250 calls for help on Monday night across the state, with winds blowing down 213 trees and leaving dozens of homes damaged.
The severe weather eased by Tuesday morning, with authorities advising people to secure loose items, move vehicles away from trees and stay away from downed power lines.
Tug boats had to help rescue the Astor cruise ship, which was blown onto the edge of Station Pier at St Kilda in Melbourne on Monday night.
Meanwhile, police were called to the Western Highway following reports a truck had crashed at Armstrong, spilling diesel over the road about 3am on Tuesday.
