BHS has confirmed it is seeking tenders to develop and manage the new cafe in the Gardiner-Pittard building, on Drummond Street.
The successful company will also run the cafe inside the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre, off Sturt Street, and the Queen Elizabeth Centre’s Strawberry Cafe.
A statement to The Courier outlines BHS’ existing catering department would continue to provide in-patient meals and external catering, including Meals on Wheels, childcare and functions.
BHS acting chief executive officer Craig Wilding said the new café would complement existing restaurant and cafes around the Base Hospital, providing convenient and healthy options for those who live and work in the area.
“Ballarat Health Services is committed to responsibly investing our capital in the equipment and infrastructure required to deliver world-class healthcare to our community,” Mr Wilding said.
"We will be accessing external expertise by engaging a retail catering company to develop and fit out the new GP cafe.”
