Events leading up to the incident began when officers were called to a Kline Street address following reports of a neighbourhood dispute before they were confronted by a woman and a man about 11.30pm.
The duo became aggressive towards police before one officer was allegedly assaulted with a plank of wood.
In response, police used capsicum spray and arrested the 36-year-old Ballarat woman and 52-year-old Ballarat man.
The man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering life and making a threat to kill and has been remanded to appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on March 1.
The woman is assisting police with their enquiries.
The initial attending senior constables, a man and a woman, suffered injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
A male sergeant and two male senior constables, who were called in to the scene as back up, also sustained minor injuries during the incident.
