An Elvis-inspired Loreto College chant shounded out “we can’t help, falling in love with the crew” in a spit crew rally at Friday lunchtime. But it is a sentiment shared across all school communities, hungry to captured Ballarat Associated Schools’ coveted Head of the Lake titles on Sunday.
Loreto is the defending girls champion and will host the prestigious regatta for the first time. Loreto’s spit crew captains Bella Quinlan and Grace Todd really want to make their cheer presence felt.
“We’ve got to really cheer our crews on and help everyone come together,” Bella said. “We will be humble to other crews, but still make sure we have some of that Loreto fire.”
Racing action starts from 9am with Head of the Lake titles up for grabs from 11.30am. Get there for spit crews’ vocal arrivals. Prime viewing is near the Olympic Rings precinct.
