A massive blitz in Ballarat over the weekend netted a number of alleged criminals who tried to evade police.

Operation Wings, which involved a number of specialist police units, swarmed the city on Friday and Saturday night.
As a result, police made 12 arrests, issued 16 penalty notices and impounded five vehicles.
Of the 12 arrests, four people tried to flee police.
Divisional Response Unit, Highway Patrol and Divisional Intelligence Unit, along with the assistance of the Air Wing, Operations Response Unit (ORU) and Dog Squad.
Over two nights, police checked more than 400 people, 220 vehicles and conducted 220 preliminary breath tests.
Detective Sergeant Daniel York said local police continued to be concerned by the number of drivers who failed to stop when requested by police.
“Drivers who make a conscious decision not to obey a direction from police are a danger to the community and they are breaking the law,” said Detective Sergeant York.
Among the people who allegedly evaded police were:
- A 37 year old man from Skipton was charged with failing to stop for police, conduct endangering persons and other-related offences.
- A 19 year old man from Daylesford was charged with failing to stop for police, conduct endangering persons and other-related offences.
- A 23 year old man from Ballarat charged with failing to stop for police, conduct endangering persons and other-related offences.
- A 17 year old boy from Linton was arrested in relation to the theft of a motor vehicle.
“The safety of our community is paramount and police will continue to focus on these issues going forward,” said Detective Sergeant York.
“We’ve seen some positive results from this operation but local police will not rest.
“Further operations utilising resources such as the Air Wing, ORU and Dog Squad will continue to run in the Ballarat Police Service Area based upon local intelligence.”
