Cliff’s Edge has come up with gate 16 for the 1600m feature, but was a $4.60 favourite for the race on Tuesday afternoon.
The horse, which has won five of 12 career starts, will be ridden by Ballarat-based Irish jockey John Allen at Flemington on Saturday.
Weir also has Peaceful State ($13) engaged in the race.
The Ballarat trainer is fresh off a group 1-winning weekend, which saw Brave Smash beat stablemate Tosen Stardom in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday afternoon.
Brave Smash remains a chance to head to the group 1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington on March 10.
Meanwhile, Weir’s gallant Cox Plate runner-up Humidor has been given top weight of 58kg for the group 1 Doncaster Handicap in Sydney during April.
