A grade title victory surprises teenager

BALLARAT’S Jordan Lett is the new Commonwealth Golf Club A grade champion.

The 19-year-old had the better of another teenager Tom Couling 5/4 in a 36-hole match-play final.

Lett said he exceeded his own expectations, not feeling confident going into the event.

“I didn’t really think I’d have a chance of winning to be honest, but I was really happy with how I played,” he said.

Lett made his winning push in the second 18 holes.

“I was one down after 18.

“It was actually nice to be behind because the pressure was on him, not me,” Lett said.

He won the 19th and 20th.

“From there I was able to maintain my lead – playing safe.”

Lett became the Ballarat Golf Club’s youngest A grade champion at the age of 15 and won the Victorian Country junior championship at age 16.

The RMIT business student is looking forward to playing golf in Ballarat when he moves home for the summer.
