ONE down, six to go. That’s the way Ballarat Clarendon College students Michael Gibney and Tilly Graovac were thinking after yesterday’s English exam, which went for more than three hours including reading time.
The pair are among 2026 Ballarat students currently undergoing their VCE exams, and more than 1000 who took English yesterday.
Both said that despite a few nerves, they were confident going into the exam.
“The exam was definitely long enough, my hand was hurting a bit by the end, but we’ve practised the exams a few times so we were used to it,” Michael said.
Tilly said she was reasonably happy with how she went.
“I just tried to think it’s not the end of the world even though it is quite important,” she said.
“And I thought even the pressure is something to drive you to success.
“I wanted to do well for all the people who put the pressure on, I wanted to live up to the standards. I thought I would be a lot more nervous than I was because this is the real thing.”
Despite a long two weeks ahead, both students know how they will celebrate when exams are over.
“I’m gonna party,” Michael said. “And I’m going to breathe a big sigh of relief.”
Tilly said: “We’re gonna go wild, the girls and I have got some plans”.
