MEET 13-year-old Callum Linnane, Ballarat's very own version of Billy Elliot. It was a television special on the king of pop Michael Jackson that introduced Callum to the world of dance."`I remember I stayed up and watched it and I also taped it so I could practice all his moves,"' the year seven St Patrick's College student laughed. However, the youngest of five children from a "family of bricklayers" admits he was "kind of forced" into ballet three years ago."I started tap (dance classes) when I was in Grade 2, but then I moved into ballet because I was told it would help with my tap," he said."The first year I did it against my will."I just thought it was really different and I was worried it didn't suit me."But how things can change in just a matter of years."I love ballet now," he laughed. This year, the former Ballarat Centre of Music & The Arts student travelled to Melbourne six-days-a-week to participate in the Australian Ballet School's after school program. He will step things up a notch next year when he will split his full-time studies between the ballet school and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School at Southbank."I can't wait," he said.Callum now dreams of one day performing with the Australian Ballet Company."That would be really cool," he said.
