St Pat’s advanced to the final by taking out the fastest 2000m heat on Friday.
The Ballarat school won from Newington-NSWIS, with the first two into the final.
Ballarat High School also qualified for the final with a second to Melbourne High School in a heat.
Ballarat Clarendon College and Ballarat Grammar School go into repechages on Saturday.
In the schoolgirls, Damascus College is into Sunday’s final after taking out the first repechage on Friday.
Damascus sat third for 1500m before winning by 1.24 seconds from Ballarat Grammar School.
With the first two in each repechage progressing to the final, Damascus and Ballarat Grammar join Loreto College and Ballarat High School in the race for medals.
Ballarat Clarendon College finished third and sixth in the second repechage.
