FORMER Pyrenees Shire Council mayor Gabriel Horvat has thrown his hat in the ring for next month's Hepburn Shire Council election.Mr Horvat - who owns a business in Daylesford - resigned from Pyrenees Shire Council earlier this year, citing family and work commitments as the reason behind his decision. He will contest the Birch Ward together with Daylesford doctor Jonathan Barrell and Rod May.Meanwhile former Hepburn mayor Heather Mutimer will not stand at the election due to a "combination of reasons".Cr Mutimer was the only councillor in council's current line-up not to renominate."I've got my elderly 93-year-old mother living with me now and, as I said in my letter to The Advocate, I have an unhealthy level of disillusion with local government," Cr Mutimer, who was elected to council in 2003, said.In the Creswick Ward, six people will battle it out for two positions - current Birch Ward councillor David Smith, Creswick Ward councillor Janine Booth, Creswick businessman Mark Shalless, Don Henderson, Michael Overington, and Leonard Koninx.Three people will stand for Cameron Ward - current mayor Tim Hayes, Clunes business owner Ian Baker, and Les Eastcott.Current Holcombe Ward councillor Bill McClenaghan has renominated for his ward unopposed, while Sebastian Klein stood unopposed for the Coliban Ward. The ballot paper positions are as follows:BIRCH WARD:Jonathan BarrellRod MayGabriel HorvatCAMERON WARD:Ian BakerTim HayesLes EastcottCRESWICK WARD:Janine BoothDon HendersonLeonard KoninxDavid SmithMark ShallessMichael OveringtonCOLIBAN WARDSebastian KleinHOLCOMBE WARDBill McClenaghan
