Former national player Tasi Stampoultzis is eager to develop a team in Ballarat and is hoping this program will help him spread the word and see the level of interest in the region.
He will be joined by Director of Operations for Iroquois Lacrosse Kevin Sandy. The Canadian facilitates strategic planning, goal-setting and organizational development for First Nations and non-profit corporations and was awarded the Aboriginal Coach Impact Award in 2016.
Sandy, who is passionate about motivating youngsters through sport, will be a valuable asset in Ballarat’s bid to grow a team from the ground.
Event organiser Stampoultzis understands the challenge that starting a club from scratch presents, but was keeping his expectations realistic with a view to the long-term.
“We should (have a club in Ballarat), because there’s so many good sportspeople around here,” Stampoultzis said.
“I’m not going to rush this.
“It’s long-term thing...with a junior club to begin with.
“If we plan it well and don’t expect too much, too quickly, I’m sure it will get going.”
The event will run from 10am to 12pm and is targeting all youngsters, with a particular focus on indigenous kids.
Players will get a chance to learn about the game as well as get onto the court and have a taste of it during a scratch match.
