FROM jelly wrestling to street soccer, the Ballarat Youth Festival has something on offer for all young people early next month.Formerly known as Stuffest, the event was originally scheduled to run in September, but organisers delayed the festival so they could book high-profile acts. The wait has paid off with Melbourne hip-hop artist Phrase booked in to host a hip-hop workshop and Trial Kennedy pencilled in to headline an outdoor music event. The event is co-ordinated by the City of Ballarat Youth Services and Sonika Events Crew made up of 14 young people from Ballarat and will be spread over three days.Sonika member Kara Shadforth said she hoped the range of events would attract large numbers of people."I'm working on promotions so there's a lot on MySpace and we're getting flyers printed up to hand out on the street," she said. The opening event will be held on April 3, a Friday, at the Mining Exchange and has a circus theme. It features a jumping castle, break dancing demonstrations, "The Bus", beading workshops, Guitar Hero Competition and much more.Other events held over the weekend include a BMX session, gaming workshop, a dance part, a street-soccer tournament and a skate day."We've made it on a shorter scale with just as many events," Sonika member Jono Vanderploeg said."This festival has been put together by young people for young people and I think that will be the key to it's success this year," Ballarat Youth Services youth project officer Shaun Adams said.
