BALLARAT lawyer Jon Irwin was taken to hospital after his car rolled over twice following a collision with another vehicle at the corner of Dana and Raglan streets yesterday afternoon. However, he escaped the crash with minor injuries, including a swollen knee and bruised shoulder, and was able to wave to bystanders as he was being loaded into the ambulance by stretcher. Mr Irwin was driving east along Dana St about 3.25pm when the accident happened. The other driver, a female P-plater in her 20s, was travelling north along Raglan St. The two cars collided at the intersection and Mr Irwin's car bounced off the kerb before rolling and coming to a standstill in the gutter. Mr Irwin yesterday said the impact of the collision caused the blue Daihatsu Terios to flip."I didn't think it'd turn the car over,'' he said. "It was a bit frightening."Senior Constable Travis Johnson, of Ballarat Traffic Management Unit, said speed was not a factor in the crash. He said the female driver would be issued with a penalty notice for failing to give way. Meanwhile, the west-bound lanes of the Western Hwy were closed for more than 10 hours after a crash involving four trucks, including a petrol tanker, near the Ballan exit on Tuesday night. The accident happened about 9.30pm when a truck ran into the back of another truck. Traffic was diverted through Ballan, and the west-bound lanes were opened at 8am yesterday. Fog was believed to have been a factor in the accident. Ballan police said both west-bound lanes had to be closed for safety reasons while the accident scene was cleaned up, because the weather made it difficult for drivers to see. One of the truck drivers was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
