THE Redan Football Club was all but dead in 1998.The senior team had not won for four years, the lowest point coming when it had to forfeit a game, believed to be for the first time in its history. But the club refused to die, and the turning point came with a big win against Daylesford in August 1999.From that time, Redan’s return to on-field success began building steadily, and it has since appeared in five grand finals, twice winning back-to-back premierships: in 2002-03 and 2006-07.To honour the players of the past 10 years, the RedanPast Players and Officials Association held a combinedTeam of the Decade and Hall of Fame dinner at Saxon House on Saturday night.A club committee selected the team’s coaches, who then chose the following team:Back: Sam Giblett, Luke Nunn, Adrian King.Half back: Ryan Waight, Mark Kennedy (vc), Ryan Knowles.Centre: Brendan Peace, Jarrod Edwards, Nathan Blomeley.Half forward: Matt Dwyer, Jayden Reid, Aaron Freeland.Forward: Ash Barker, Matthew Walsh, Andrew Jones.Ruck: Orren Stephenson, Dru Quinlan (c).Rover: Julian Field.Interchange: Brett Dickinson, Paul Ellis, Kiernan Molloy, Haldane Nelson (deceased), Matthew Pitt, Justin Rumble.Joint coaches: Brett Quinlan and Kieran Murrihy. All surviving members of the team were present atthe dinner except for Mark Kennedy, who remained inQueensland to coach his team, the Cairns Saints.Haldane Nelson died in a level-crossing accident in2008.At the same function, the club also elevated the following people to its Hall of Fame: long-serving player, coach and administrator from the 1930s and 1940sSteve Bayly, former ladies committee president JoyceHicks and former coach Brett Quinlan, credited withkick-starting the run of onfield success since his appointment in 2000.
