Redan celebrates with a Mad Monday

MONDAY is usually a quiet day for the staff at the Bunch of Grapes Hotel, but yesterday it was the scene of busy celebrations as the jubilant Redan Football Club savoured their grand final victory. The Redan senior football team won this year's Ballarat Football League premiership, definitively beating East Point on Saturday by 43 points. After such a great win a Mad Monday was always going to be a high-spirited day of celebration. The team's theme for the day was opp-shop fashion, worn with colour and plenty of style.First-year playing coach Brendan Peace was looking the part in a colourful 80s-inspired knit."We've been here since about 10.30am and will stay until 4pm or 5pm and then head to the Lakeview to watch the Brownlow count," Mr Peace said. With a red, white and blue cravat, veteran player Ash Barker was enjoying the spoils of his fifth premiership with Redan."To me the fifth premiership is just as good as the first," he said.Bunch of Grapes publican Rob Morley said the win meant a huge day for the hotel, with extra staff rostered to help with food and bar service."We're very proud to have the team here and have been proud sponsors of the club all year," Mr Morley said.Though it was a long day, the players had been well behaved.Enjoying the festivities, Redan Football Club president Andrew Madden, described the win as "just fantastic". "They're a fantastic bunch of blokes," Mr Madden said. The win stemmed from the fact they were a genuine bunch of blokes who worked for each other as a team.
