Rangers came out firing in the top two battle of the Ballarat and District Soccer Association’s women’s division one competition, with a 4-0 lead at half time.
The centre backs for the Strikers read the ball well throughout the game to slow the supply and set up some good counter attacks.
But they could not contain three power forwards for Warrnambool – Isabel Wilkinson managed another hat-trick, Chloe Paredes scored two goals and Emily Whelan also found the net.
The game ended 7-0 in the Rangers’ favour, giving Strikers’ their first defeat. Warrnambool is now the only team to remain undefeated with five-straight victories.
Meanwhile, Ballarat has overcome injury woes to secure its second win of the season over a tough Ballarat North United side, 4-1, on home turf at Pleasant Street. Lily Fraser, Keryn Walters, Lucy Brennan and Cherie Chircop all contributed to the scoreboard for Ballarat.
In men’s division one competition, Buninyong and Forest Rangers produced the match of the round at Morshead Park. While Buninyong’s young squad flooded forward in numbers at every opportunity, it could not get past the stronger Forest Rangers bodies.
Buninyong went into the break with a 1-0 advantage, but Forest clawed back the goal in the 87th minute to finish with a 1-1 draw.
