Parole violations return killer to jail

A CONVICTED murderer is back behind bars after being arrested yesterday morning following the cancellation of his parole on Tuesday. Paul Aaron Haseloff, 27, was convicted and sentenced to 17 years jail with a non-parole period of 12 years in April 1997 after a jury found him guilty of murdering his girlfriend Margaret Smith.Ms Smith was shot at a Laverton home in March 1995 and her body was burned and dumped near a Ballarat mine shaft.Haseloff breached his parole last year after allegedly committing burglary and theft offences and was back in prison until April this year.Since being released on parole again, he has been charged with dishonesty and drug crimes. The parole board made a decision to cancel Haseloff's parole on Tuesday. Haseloff could now be jailed for his maximum remaining parole period of four and a half years.
