Gunman charged after stand-off near Ballan

A MAN will face court next week after an incident that lasted more than two hours at Korweinguboora, north of Ballan, yesterday.Police were called about 2.20pm after a report of a domestic dispute.It is alleged the 43-year-old man threatened and assaulted a female before fleeing a premises in Korweinguboora.Sergeant Matt Noy of Bacchus Marsh police said it was believed the man was in possession of firearms.Police later received reports of the man sitting in his car on Back Settlement Road.Eight police cars blocked off the road at the intersection of the Ballan-Daylesford Road. With police unable get close to the man, the air-wing was called but not required.Bacchus Marsh Leading Senior Constable Kevin Dans said the man had no known history with police. A police spokesperson said the incident ended peacefully with the man being arrested at his home at Korweinguboora shortly before 5pm.He was taken into custody at the Bacchus Marsh Police Station last night.He was charged with unlawful imprisonment, making threats to kill and assault with a weapon.The man appeared briefly before a bail justice and was remanded in custody to appear at Ballarat Magistrates Court on Monday.
