Students escape burning bus at Bacchus Marsh

STUDENTS were forced to evacuate a school bus that caught fire near Bacchus Marsh this morning.The bus caught fire on Bacchus Marsh-Gisborn Road at approximately 8am and was completely destroyed.No students were harmed.Do you have photos or video of the bus fire? Click here to share them with The Courier The bus made a u-turn at Bullengarook, about 15 kilometres from Bacchus Marsh, when the driver reportedly heard a loud pop from the rear of the bus.Bacchus Marsh Acting Sergeant Brian Anderson said smoke billowed from the back of the bus and the 14 students were immediately evacuated.''It was a fault with the bus it seems. It is burnt to the ground,'' he said.Police closed the road while the CFA controlled the blaze.Eight fire trucks responded from the surrounding area and took 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.The surrounding grass also caught fire.A replacement bus arrived within an hour to transport the students to school.
