VICTORIA is back on the march in Ballarat Geelong premier division bowls, sweeping Central Wendouree aside at home on Saturday. The Vics scored in four relatively close tussles, to move within five points of the premier division top four. Shaun Clark's team scraped home 25-24 against Central Wendouree's Tim Wright, while Craig Ford's team was a 27-24 victor over Col Wright.Wes Lennecke's team (25-19) and Barry Clark's (26-17) rounded out an even performance from Victoria ahead of a season defining match against Sebastopol next Saturday before the Christmas break."It was a very necessary win. It was pretty close right throughout the day, and we got away from them in the end," Victoria third Noel Verlinden said."We're not going to be complacent about it. We need to beat 'Sebas' for a start and have a few results fall our way if we are to be in the four at the break."TOP of the table is Webbcona's reward for its 107-79 victory over Ocean Grove. The green-and-whites took all 18 points from the match, leapfrogging Bareena on the premier division ladder."At the start of the season I would never have thought we'd be top of the ladder before Christmas time," Webbcona selector Brett Mahoney said."All 16 bowlers are playing really good bowls. We were seven up across the board at afternoon tea time. After that Ash McArthur's rink picked up three lots of five shots."Ocean Grove had former Melbourne premier division bowlers David Donaldson and Dale Kett come in, so to beat their rink 28-20 was a very good result for Ben McArthur's team."Adam Kinnaburgh's team won 23-18, Ash McArthur's got home 32-20, while Tony Wood's four won 24-21. EARLY premier division pacesetter Bareena has slumped to consecutive losses, defeated easily by crosstown rival Highton 139-83.Bareena's three young skippers were all well beaten in the match, Highton's Craig Elliot and team easily knocking over Ryan Tainton's four 42-20, Craig Hodges' crew thrashing Travis Kelly's 42-12, and Zune Lugg's four winning a closer game against Brannon Shelton 28-24. Cal Inderberg and Mick Kelly split the points in the other rink 27-27.AN important 103-81 shot victory at home against Avenue has lifted Sebastopol out of the premier division relegation zone. The Kookaburras scored 15 points, to claw their way to seventh on the ladder. Ian Warner's team was Sebastopol's big victor, beating Rodney Keith's 31-13. Scott Roberts and co earned two more points for the Burra, with a 25-20 win.Rob Baker and Darren Fletcher tied on 25 apiece, while Stephan Sullivan scored two points for Avenue in a 23-22 thriller.
