EARLIER, SUNDAY: Maryborough residents were left in shock and disbelief on Sunday afternoon after the body of a man was found in a Derby Road home.
Police attended the scene of the Derby Road property where the man was found dead at 12.30pm on Sunday, quickly working to tape off three properties.
Northbound traffic on Derby Road was blocked off as detectives and the Homicide Squad combed the property.
Police continued to work into the evening, scouring across the properties and across the street for clues about the cause of the man’s death and the circumstances which surround it.
At 6.30pm on Sunday, the exact cause of the man’s death was yet to be formally identified by police.
Shocked neighbours and nearby business owners on a Maryborough street where a man’s body was found described the discovery as ‘terrible’ and ‘out of the blue’.
“It’s a quiet part of town, a nice quiet neighbourhood,” one resident said. “I’m not really sure what’s going on, it has come out of the blue,” another added.
A nearby business owner said the news came as a shock. “It’s terrible.”
Earlier in the day an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson confirmed it had been called to an address in Derby Road but the matter was now with police.
The road follows on from Ballarat-Maryborough Road and is the gateway to the town from the south.
