There will be statements made, but what these are comes back to the spin from those taking part.
While called a secret twirl, Luxville citizens are issuing an open invitation to come get in a spin with them at the Dance Carousel on Thursday evening.
This is the next part of the story in transmedia project Luxville, a mythical town which looks and sounds a lot like Ballarat.
The aim is to fill the Dance Carousel at Alfred Deakin Place with twirling people for a scene in the Luxville project. Wearing a twirl-able skirt helps, but pants are welcome for the scene too. The Luxville crew will teach all what to do.
Luxville creator Erin McCuskey said the mass twirl was based on the idea joy can be found but unless we expressed our freedoms, we lose them.
Ms McCuskey said each person will bring find their own interpretation to twirl, whether the frivolous fun or more in-depth statement like finding a safe place to take a twirl in a world where one might otherwise feel unsafe.
Twirlers, will be named as extras in the credits, and have a Luxville momento to take away from the “fabulous” experience.
The Luxville project has unfolded the past three years with film, a website, photography and live events and performances. Luxville launched in the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
The mass twirl and Dance Carousel is part of Ballarat Winter Festival’s Laneway Lumieres. Tucked away in the city’s laneways, artist installations light up every night between 5pm and midnight as part of the festival. One of the installations has been created by Ms McCuskey.
Wander Ballarat's laneways this winter and arrive at Alfred Deakin Place to see local artist installations light up the night. These lumieres come to life every evening between 5pm-12am.
All the Luxville talk is that the mass twirl will start people spinning on Thursday from 6-7pm, regardless the weather conditions. Taking the chance is all part of the Luxville fun.
