STARTING almost from scratch again, Ballarat Pride has wiped existing key performance indicators and reassessed exactly how it might tackle this Victorian Netball League season.Rating success will be different, UB Pride head coach Jo Dash has declared. There is a whole new crop of players stepping up for the Pride challenge and, three years into the revamped state league competition, Pride’s focus is fixed firmly on building for the future.“We’re setting targets each week that will set the pattern for the night,” Dash said.“Most players haven’t had an opportunity to play at this level before and there is a real energy – it’s making me feel excited about this bunch.”Centre-courter Johanna Dash is the sole returning player to Pride’s championship division team following a string of player retirements, departures and resignations for new work commitments.Dash is an experienced state leaguer and now, for the first time, must step up as a Pride leader and team mentor.Fellow centre-courter Stacey McCartin has been promoted from division one and renewed a strong combination with Dash.Ballarat Netball Association premier league netballers Eleanor Van Dyk, Laura Hopkins and Olivia Hobbs worked hard this summer to earn spots in Pride’s championship division line-up. Hobbs has been exposed to high-level sport before on the Ballarat Lady Miners’ development list.Incoming goalers Laura Bell (formerly Geelong) and Julia Allan (from powerhouse Boroondara) have joined Pride for the chance to play championship division. They have formed a strong partnership with centre-courter Amy Caldow able to move under the ring.Ingrid Hopkins, initially a division one prospect, will start in the marquee team to replace goal keeper Danni Davidson, who is ruled out for the first six rounds with a foot injury.Pride 19-unders Kelly Moran, Alex Hamlyn, Mikayla George, Caitlyn Hickey and Bianca Woods form the bulk of the new division one squad. All proved they could stand their ground physically in the open-age competition.* HEIGHT is a welcome addition to Ballarat Pride 19-unders this season.Goal attack Chelsea Ross has grown taller this summer and will be joined in the circle by towering duo Rachael Whitehead and Jordyn Bibby.Whitehead returns to Pride after a year sidelined with a hip injury.Centre-courters Molly Boyle and Gina McCartin, the 2010 league’s most valuable player, are back on court for the 19-unders.Identical twins Jessica and Vanessa Abela should create some havoc alongside them in the mid-court.Teammates Lucy Kerr (Anglesea), Timika Waites (Mountain Districts) and Emma Ryan (Edenhope) have made the move to Ballarat to play state league and are helping to set the tone in dedication and enthusiasm.
