Chepstowe wind farm approved

ENVIRONMENTAL groups have welcomed a decision by Planning Minister Matthew Guy to grant approval for a three-turbine wind farm at Chepstowe.Announcing the decision yesterday, Mr Guy said the Pittong Road project was consistent with the government’s wind farm policy.“In February 2011, I used my powers to call in the Chepstowe wind farm application before VCAT, as it raised issues about planning policy and the achievement of renewable energy objectives,” he said.“Senior officers of the Department of Planning and Community Development conducted a thorough investigation of the subject site and surrounding areas and met with all parties associated with the VCAT proceeding.”Friends of the Earth campaign co-ordinator Cam Walker said the decision was an important step for renewable energy in Victoria. “The government has clearly heard the voices of hundreds of Victorians who wrote to the minister in support of the ... wind farm,” he said. The farm, to be located between Skipton and Snake Valley, will be built by Future Energy.
