(SORRY I haven’t updated you all since Tommi had his treatment. We didn’t have any internet in the hospital! Felt like my arm was cut off.) Not much sleep was had by Tommi and I the night before we were due to go to the clinic; the nerves, excitement and anxiety were all rolled into one big emotional rollercoaster. The clinic is just lovely. We have two rooms to ourselves, a lounge with 2 couches and bedroom with an ensuite. Very flash compared to Ballarat! When we got to the clinic we were shown to our room, then had to wait for a few hours before we saw anyone or spoke to anyone. The language barrier is REALLY difficult and the next trip I will be learning Spanish before we go! The nurses avoided us and we had no idea when the procedure would actually take place. At about 11:30 we saw the physical therapist who worked with Tommi for about half an hour to see how much muscle tone Tommi still had. Tommi wasn’t happy about it at all as she was VERY rough! (I think that’s when the tears started, watching my little man in pain is not something I want to keep seeing)After that was over Tommi had to get his IV inserted into his foot and that was even worse than the therapy! Tommi howled and mummy wasn’t much better. Luckily daddy is very strong and held it together for all of us. I tried singing “twinkle, twinkle little star” but when the needle wouldn’t go into his vein nothing could comfort him. Tommi ended up going in to have his procedure done at about 5:30pm. Bob and I went down in the lift with Tommi who was lying on the bed, quite happy. The nurse gave us some covers for or shoes so we could go in with him and wait until the anaesthetic kicked in(I’m assuming) but before we could another nurse took Tommi and wheeled him away before we could even say goodbye! Tommi was getting the procedure done for about 40 minutes and I couldn’t have been happier to see him come out of the elevator! There were plenty of things going through my head as I’m sure you could imagine, especially because of not saying goodbye or to tell him how much I love him. He was upset when he was being wheeled back into the room after the procedure, but even though he was crying, I was so glad to be able to comfort him give him big cuddles! Tommi slept for a few hours after the treatment, and only had some Panadol for the pain. Other than that he was still his normal gorgeous self giggling and laughing at everyone.I’m so glad the first treatment is over without complications. We won’t know if the treatment is successful for a few months yet, however the doctors said he will need to come back to Peru in about 6 months time. The next treatment is tomorrow, so keep sending the positive vibes our way! Thanks for all the messages of love and hope, we need all the positive energy we can get. xxx
