COMPETITION is tipped to be bigger and extremely tough but Ballarat Clarendon College netballers are ready for the challenge.College’s senior team will hit the court today for the Netball Victoria Schools Championships finals – a round robin format against the state’s sharpest schoolgirl teams in Australia’s largest schools netball competition.College takes confidence from eliminating undefeated heavyweight and reigning premier Caulfield Grammar in preliminary rounds. Now College must beat the major metropolitan teams they know Caulfield has defeated.College coach Kirsty O’Rourke said it was a massive achievement for her team to get this far and her players were keen to push how far they could go.“We’re aiming for top four but it’s going to be tough – there are some massive teams down there with a lot more girls to select from than we do,” O’Rourke said.Tough defender Ginger Wollerman was a late promotion from the seconds for an ill Jess Wheadon.Wollerman was in strong form for Redan in the Ballarat Football League under-18 netball premiership on Saturday and joined the College firsts for the road-trip to Melbourne yesterday. College had planned a session at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in the afternoon to freshen up for today’s matches.They must win all eight matches to reach the championship play-offs.The Hamilton and Alexandra College won through Ballarat Associated Schools ranks and will also be in action today.Sacred Heart College, Geelong, and Emmanuel College, Warrnambool, are among other regional entrants.
