REMEMBER this fire at Ballarat Railway Station? The fire, on December 13, 1981, destroyed sections of the historic 1862 station. The fire swept through the station master’s office, booking office, station tower interior and part of the foyer, causing about $500,000 damage. About 40 firemen and five units fought the blaze, which raged through the ceiling and funnelled up into the tower of the station. The damaged areas were later repaired.
