Rooster Matt Tyler returns to Horsham District League

NORTH Ballarat Roosters premiership player Matt Tyler will return to play with his home club Rupanyup next season.The 23-year-old said he wanted to enjoy country football with friends and family in his Wimmera home town.“I just want to give a little bit back to the club that helped me all through my junior career,” Tyler said.Tyler, a former Brisbane Lion, said he would continue to live and work as a carpenter in Ballarat – he simply wanted to play with the Panthers again in the Horsham District Football League.He follows defender Michael Sharkey as a departure from the Selkirk Roosters list.Sharkey has elected to take a break from the game.Tyler played two seasons with the Roosters after three seasons with the Brisbane Lions.He was delisted by the Lions at the end of the 2009 season after struggles with back-related injuries and not having played a fully-fledged AFL game, despite eight pre-season matches.Tyler was drafted to the Lions from North Ballarat Rebels at pick 54 in the 2006 AFL national draft.He was primarily recruited back to the Roosters as a replacement for dual premiership defender Michael Searl, who left to travel overseas.Searl will return to the Roosters next season after a two-season hiatus.Tyler played 39 Victorian Football League senior matches, including the Roosters’ 2010 premiership against Northern Bullants at Etihad Stadium.The Roosters start pre-season training on Monday night.
