TWO teenagers have been trapped for more than two hours at the scene of a horrific crash in Golden Point tonight. The car they were travelling in hit a powerpole, which crews are trying to stabilise before they can remove the teens. The crash occurred about 8.20pm in Humffray Street South, near the Bradshaw Street intersection. Two males, believed to be aged 18 to 19, were able to free themselves from the vehicle and were taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital with minor injuries.Rural Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said a male and female were still trapped in the front."They're trapped severely, from the waist down. Paramedics are giving them pain relief and fluids," Mr Mullen said."They can't fully assess them until they are removed."A crane was on scene trying to stabilise the powerpole, as it is understood the car is the only thing holding the pole in position.Reporter Neelima Choahan, who was at the scene, described it as "utter carnage".She said neighbours were gathered around the scene, with some crying."The neighbours first on the scene held hands with the kids in the car," she said."They said they wouldn't leave until the kids were out."Emergency crews worked on the car for some time, hammering to get the doors off.Helicopters are on standby at White Flat Oval.Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.Motorists are urged to avoid the area and give way to emergency services.See tomorrow's edition of The Courier for the full story.
