THE Eureka Pool will have a controversy-free opening today.
The Stawell Street pool will be open for public use over summer from this weekend, with the fellow YMCA-managed Black Hill, Buninyong and Wendouree pools opening from Saturday, December 1.
The Brown Hill Pool, operated by the Brown Hill Progress Association, will also open on December 1.
The pool’s opening was delayed by a month last year due to a late management contract tender process, which was eventually awarded to the YMCA despite 39 years of prior McKenzie family management
Ballarat City Council chief executive officer Anthony Schinck said the Eureka Pool complex had undergone a winter overhaul.
“The Eureka Aquatic Centre is highly valued by Ballarat residents, and we’ve used the off-season to carry out important works on the pool and surrounds, including the construction of a new playground,” Mr Schinck said.
Yesterday, Thomas, 12, and Laura, 7, Cummings were keen to try out the water, despite the chilly weather.
“I’ve been doing swimming lessons so I’m excited about swimming here now,” Laura said.
A community day will be held at the Eureka Pool on Saturday, November 17 and at the other outdoor pools on Saturday, December 1.
The Eureka Pool gates will open at 9am today and will close at 7pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The gates will open at 6.30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now until March.
