A PLAYGROUND designed with a Eureka theme was officially opened at the Eureka Stockade Reserve yesterday.
The $250,000 playground, the first in Ballarat also totally accessible to disabled people, was opened next to the Eureka Centre just in time for the Eureka 150th celebrations that begin at the end of the month.
Caledonian Ward councillor Stephen Jones opened the playground that forms part of the Eureka Stockade Reserve's $800,000 redevelopment.
"The play area has a distinct Eureka theme and was custom designed to enhance the experience of visiting the stockade," Cr Jones said.
The playground has a rustic stockade structure, including a redcoat maze, a sculptured horse and cart, miniature forest and a series of diggings or mullock heaps.
More than 30 local businesses donated about $100,000 to the project.
Ten-year-old Morgan Olney said: "It's the best playground I've ever seen."
