IT'S PERSONAL pride versus national honour for the two Ballarat Rovers "Lewis Guns".Ararat rider Lewis Stewart and Bacchus Marsh counterpart Lewis Woods will be in action on Sunday at the Oceania Motocross Championships, at Barrabool near Geelong. But their motivations will be a little different despite being on the track at the same time in the Pro Lite class.Stewart, 21, has been named part of the four-man team to represent Australia in the Pro Lites against a New Zealand squad. Any points he earns, along with those of his team-mates in the Pro Open, Pro Lite, women and junior classes will go towards the national tally. But filling out the fields will be a number of so-called independents like 18-year-old Woods, who will be aiming simply to end the 2007 season on a high."I've not been selected in the Australian team so, even though I'd like to see the Australian team beat New Zealand, I'm really racing for myself," Woods said."It's about having a good result to end the season and to set myself up for next year. "Most of the deals for next year are pretty much finalised. But if I have a great result there is still a chance of a last minute deal to get a factory ride in the Nationals.""I think I'm still a chance to win if things go my way even though I'm a privateer."Stewart said his first goal was also to win, but there would also be a team aspect with fellow Aussie riders Jake Moss, Cameron Taylor and Danny Anderson."To tell the truth you do race as an individual, trying to win each heat, but if you ride well then you score good points for the Australian team," Stewart explained."It's a major one-off event to end the season and my last race with my current sponsorship deal, so I hope to do well for them."Stewart and Wood both competed in this year's Australian Motocross Championship as privateers, Stewart finishing seventh overall including a pair of race wins in Mackay (Qld), with Wood finishing 13th. Both rode Honda CRF 250cc four-stroke bikes.Stewart has since signed a deal with Serco factory-supported Yamaha team for the 2008 season.
