Beaufort truck crash: one trapped

A MAN has been airlifted to Melbourne's The Alfred Hospital after this afternoon's truck crash near Beaufort. The crash occurred on the Beaufort-Lexton Road shortly before 2pm.The trapped man was stuck half way down a steep embankment on the road, about five kilometres from the town.It is understood the trailer of one truck hit the other truck, causing it to catch fire on impact. The fire was extinguished and CFA crews are using ladders to reach the man, while SES crews are using the jaws of life.Rural Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said crews had the truck secured by a cable, with the man trapped by the waist down."He is trapped by his hips and legs and is in a critical condition," Mr Mullen said."He is reponding well to treatment but is critical because of the length of time he's been there."The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.See tomorrow's edition of The Courier for the full story.Click to view the photos
