The title made for an historic triple crown for the girls, having taken out the national championships in Perth last week and the Head of the Lake on Lake Wendouree before that. The third victory topped off an astounding season for the girls, winning the three biggest competitions of the year.
Captain of boats Vicki Powell said it was amazing to be part of such a talented crew, but admitted there were a few nerves before the final 1500m race on Geelong’s Barwon River.
“There was a bit of pressure to win, having already taken out the nationals,” she said.
“I’m just relieved after all the build-up surrounding it that we were able to get up.”
Grammar rowing director Luke Pougnault said he was extremely proud of his girls, who topped off a sensational year.
“It was easily the best year I’ve had with the program,” he said.
“The girls have something special and they worked so hard so they well and truly deserved every award they won.”
Grammar’s crew was made up of Stella Fulton (bow), Vicki Powell (two), Anna Fairbairn Calvert (three), Sarah Mair (four) and cox Clara Toohey.
