LONGTIME supporter of the organisation and local MP Sharon Knight was the toast of a special function on Friday night as she farewelled the board of Pinarc Disability Support.
Board members, staff and friends celebrated Ms Knight’s involvement with Pinarc, dating back nearly 20 years.
The Ballarat West MP joined the Pinarc board in 2005, having served the organisation in various capacities before then.
Current board chairperson Doug Kimberley paid tribute to Ms Knight, saying she had left big shoes to fill.
“Sharon has been involved in many different capacities and has made an extraordinary contribution over the years.
“We are very proud of her work as a member of parliament and Sharon will always be a welcome supporter of Pinarc,” he said.
Ms Knight said she had become involved with the organisation after it supported her own family.
“It absolutely is bittersweet to be moving on, but I think there are a lot of great people out there in the community with a lot to offer,” she said.
“I would encourage people to consider serving on not-for-profit boards, particularly women, because it is such a rewarding experience.”
