FORMER Royal Australian College of General Practitioners president Dr Paul Hemming has been appointed the University of Ballarat’s new chancellor.
Due to start in the role for a three-year term on July 1, Dr Hemming has been a deputy chancellor of the university since 2011 and a member of the university council since 2007, and replaces outgoing chancellor Robert Smith.
He was a founding director of beyondblue and has been president of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
He was also president of the Australian Medical Association Victoria and has served on numerous federal government medical bodies and tribunals.
“Dr Hemming has displayed a very strong commitment to the University of Ballarat and its region over many years,” vice-chancellor David Battersby said.
