Hartigan fails to qualify in Olympic bid

BALLARAT distance runner Nathan Hartigan has fallen outside the marathon A-qualifying standard in his Olympic bid.

Hartigan, based in Switzerland, ran the Hamburg Marathon in two hours, 24 minutes, five seconds on Sunday morning in Germany.

The qualifying time to beat is 2:12.

Hartigan ran through the 30-kilometre mark at 1:38:36 and was on track for a 2:18:41 finish.

He later tweeted his disappointment and thanked everyone who offered their support.
