BALLARAT’S brand new comic book store will join thousands of shops around the world to distribute free comics today.
The eleventh annual Free Comic Book Day will see 3.3 million comic books handed out to the public in a bid to introduce as many people as possible to the craft.
The Ballarat books will be distributed through Heroes HQ, which is the first dedicated comic book store in the city for more than a decade.
Owners Garry and Pauline Fay opened the store just over a week ago, just in time for the giveaway.
“Comic books stimulate people’s imagination and they connect people in a way that is really unique,” Mrs Fay said.
“It’s for young and old as well, there’s a life-long generational connection to the books.”
The Ballarat store will have more than 4000 comic books to hand out, including 27 different titles.
And comic book stores across the world will be doing the same thing.
“I think there should be more fun and colour in the world and that’s why we’ve created Heroes HQ,” Mrs Fay said.
