Fletcher runner-up in world croquet championship

LISMORE teenager Robert Fletcher is the runner-up in the world croquet championship in Adelaide today.

The 18-year-old lost 3-2 to defending champion and world number one, South Africa’s Reg Bamford in the final.

Fletcher is. the first Australian to reach a world championship final.

Fletcher defeated Marcus Evans in a semi-final in the knockout event.

Bamford had the better of Australian Simon Hockey in the other semi-final.

Fletcher is one of three brothers who play croquet internationally.

Greg and Malcolm also competed in the world championships.
