Ballarat gains health boost in Federal Budget

THE Federal Budget has delivered two surprise health announcements for Ballarat.

Ballarat District Nursing and Health Care has received a $1.7 million upgrade, helping it to continue to provide vital district nursing services across our region.

LaTrobe University also gained a $2.6 million boost for house and land packages supporting allied health and dental students on clinical placements, in a move aiming to attract new dentists and allied health professionals to the Ballarat area.

Funding of $3.3 million has already been announced for the Ballan GP Super Clinic.

Member for Ballarat Catherine King said the region would also benefit from investment in local roads, with more than $969,000 in Roads to Recovery funding.

She said the government's ongoing commitment to the Western Highway duplication from Ballarat to Stawell had also been confirmed.

"It's a very strong Labor budget. It's focused on health, education and strongly focused on lower and middle incomes," Ms King said.

"I'm really delighted about the two health announcements."
