Delacombe teens on armed hold-up charges

TWO Delacombe teenagers have been charged over an alleged armed hold-up with a knife outside Central Square yesterday afternoon.

Detective Senior Constable Phil Canny of Ballarat Criminal Investigation Unit said an 18-year female and an 18-year-old male had been charged with armed robbery in relation to an incident outside the shopping centre in Armstrong Street at 1.10pm.

“A knife is alleged to have been produced and a mobile phone handed over by a 21-year-old male victim,” he said.

He said the victim, a Ballarat man, was not injured in the alleged hold-up.

The victim reported the incident to police, who conducted a 90-minute search for the offenders.

“We identified them,” Detective Senior Constable Canny said.

“They were located at a house at Ballarat East.”

He said the mobile phone was recovered by police.

The teenagers were scheduled to appear at an out-of-sessions court hearing at Ballarat Police Station last night, where an application to remand them in custody was due to be made.

They will appear in Ballarat Magistrates Court today.
