A 13-YEAR-old boy was injured this morning when he was run over by a school bus in Wendouree.
Police say the incident happened at 8.15am on Forest Street after the boy had already left the bus, on his way to school at Ballarat Grammar.
Ballarat Highway Patrol Sergeant Ross Humphrey said the boy went back to a side door-storage area of the bus, when he got a bag caught in the door.
"The bus has taken off, the child has been knocked over and the bus has run over his leg," he said
"He'll be okay."
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the boy was taken to the Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital with a broken leg.
Sergeant Humphrey said the boy's family was immediately contacted and the school were handling the situation well.
"All the services have been put into place for the children who have seen the collision," he said.
"Our youth counselling officer will be in contact with the school also."
Ambulance crews worked on the boy for more than 30 minutes at the scene before he was taken to hospital.
Police directed the heavy school-time traffic around the accident scene and paramedics worked to deliver treatment.
The scene was cleared by 9.15am.
